In our country (Türkiye) the word Ring Main Unit (RMU) is identified with gas insulated. RMU is simply a structure consisting of an incoming, an outgoing (in this way, the ring is continues) and a transformer protection cell. It can be gas insulated or air insulated. There are two types of gas insulated ones: modular or compact. They are an alternative to Metal Enclosed Modular Switchgears. They are manufactured in the factory ready for easy assembly in the field. As a result of European Union directives and other environmental pressures, manufacturers produce SF6-free products and take type tests.
