Generator literally means producer. Different types of generators are used to generate electricity. On the grid Hydro, Solar, Termic, Wind and, Wave power plants all has generators to generate electricity. When there is a fault on the electricity grid system off, the consumers wants to continou their electricity usege thus we see the gasoline and diesel generetors.
