Load Disconnectors have air insulated and gas insulated types. They can open the feeder under load up to rated currents. In terms of operational safety, if there is a transformer connected to the load disconnectors, it may be recommended to first switch open (to been non-energised) the transformer LV switch and, then switch open (to been non-energised) the MV.
